Ex-Ambassador Romulo's car stolen

MANILA, Philippines - A former ambassador and a Japanese national are among the latest victims of car theft in the metro, police said Tuesday.

Former Ambassador Roberto Romulo's Toyota Camry (plate number ZNL 415) and a Japanese national's Toyota Innova (plate number ZCE 378) were both stolen by 3 armed men while the vehicles were parked near the Department of Energy at the Bonifacio Global City Monday afternoon.

Police reports said the suspects came at the scene aboard a Honda CRV with no plate number.

Two men alighted the vehicle, and then stole the vehicles at gunpoint from the owners' drivers.

Police chief Supt. Camilo Cascolan said the people behind the Monday incident could be the same people who took the vehicle of actor Derek Ramsay in Tagaytay over the weekend.

However, Police Highway Patrol Group (HPG) chief Supt. Leonardo Espina said the Ramsay incident was a unique one, since a Volvo vehicle, which was the type of vehicle stolen from the actor, is hard to sell.

Due to these successive carnapping incidents, the police said they are heighening their alert versus carnappers. Report from Gus Abelgas, ABS-CBN News
