BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – More poor families from the six provinces in the highland Cordillera region stand to benefit from the government’s poverty alleviation program-- Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino or Conditional Cash Transfer program next year.
A total of 3, 289 household beneficiaries more would be assisted by the government through the CCT to help them “move away” from poverty, said DSWD-Cordillera director Leonardo Reynoso.
These households will undergo registration and validation scheduled in the last quarter of 2012.
Already, there are 54,400 households in the highland region that are already enjoying the program since 2008.
All six provinces in the Cordillera are among those listed in the country's poorest provinces.
Around the country, Reynoso said, the program will expand to some 3.8 million household beneficiaries next year from the 3 million target household beneficiaries for 2012.
Before the year ends, around 700,000 poor households nationwide are expected to be included in the current 3.041 million households being covered by the program.
Registration and validation have already started in all six provinces in the Cordillera including two cities—Tabuk and Baguio.
Aside from the regular CCT beneficiary addition for next year, a “modified CCT” program covering children in need of special protection such as street children, children caught in armed conflicts, children with disabilities, abandoned children, and others will be pioneered next year. |
