Aquino vows fair admin to critics

President Aquino vowed Thursday that his government will be fair even to his critics.

In a press conference, Aquino said that the opposition will not suffer the same fate of the opposition during the time of former President Arroyo alleging that those who went up against the previous administration did not get a fair share of the "pork barrel," the Priority Development Assistance Funds (PDAF) given to senators and legislators annually.

Aquino made the comment in defense of his remark, during the Liberal Party fellowship night held in Cavite last Tuesday night when he rallied his partymates to join him in his new administration without “wang wang” and “GMA.”

“Wang-wang” is the street name of sirens which Aquino banned recently while GMA refers to former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, whom he had political differences with.

"Well I would like to think that our governance will be, if not the total opposite, would really be very, very opposite to the governance that transpired in this country for the past past nine and a half year. Without GMA, in the sense that we want our governance to beat that." Aquino said, citing his experience as a former member of the opposition.

Aquino said the opposition was treated badly by the previous administration to the point of depriving opposition members in Congress of their just share of the pork barrel fund.

"What hurts is that it was not us who were being deprived but our constituents," he lamented.

"Even to those who oppose us, even if we have political issues with each other, it should not be the Filipinos who will suffer because a democracy really has to engender the exchange of ideas between opposing camps to come up with a better idea if not all the time, most of the time," he said.

Aquino also welcomed a proposal to trim the pork barrel allocations in a bid to solve the country’s P340-billion budget deficit. But the chief executive said he is more in favor of its just distribution and its proper delivery.

Quezon Rep. Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada III had proposed that Aquino should have a menu on where the congressional funds may be used.

“Nobody will be deprived of their just share. Now as to what the just share is, that has to be determined,” he said.
